June 9, 2001 we welcomed our first baby into the world! Nine years has gone by like a flash. Maddie used most of her birthday money from family to purchase new bedding…it struck me that only nine more short years later, we will be picking out bedding once again, only to be setting it up in a dorm room, not up a flight of stairs in our home. Okay, that’s too sad, let’s move on.

Sweet friends from school
John David and David joined in the fun
Sweet Olivia is Maddie’s buddy from church. Olivia’s grandmother is our neighbor, so that is a perk for Maddie!
Little Natalie who has been a buddy since kindergarten.

Maddie and I designed her cake. She chose chocolate cake and white icing. Thanks to my sister, I actually completed the cake.

We took Maddie to her restaurant of choice on her actual birthday night, and she chose Shotgun Dan’s Pizza, one of our favorite local dives. I hope she wants to eat at Shotgun Dan’s on her birthday til she’s 30.
The Hidden Cupcake! If you don’t already have one, next time you go to Hobby Lobby, get one for your family! The Hidden Cupcake appears at the breakfast table the morning of each person’s birthday, and during the day, it disappears, only to be found by the birthday boy or girl with a special treat inside! This year, Maddie’s treat was a little necklace from me.
Maddie leaves Monday for her first overnight camp. She will be away from us for 5 nights, so I loved this sweet necklace to remind her that although she is apart from us, we would be praying this Scripture all week…that God would command his angels to watch over her.
“For He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.”
Psalm 91:11
Maddie’s present this year was a new bike…she’s gone from the Kettler trike, to the princess bike, to the rockstar bike, and now this “cool” bike that seems way to big for a little girl that I think just left kindergarten. Oh wait, that’s my second child that just left kindergarten. Life is moving way too fast for me.
