DIY Snow Globes are no stranger to Pinterest or the blog world, but they do not get old! They are simple, whimsical, and inexpensive additions to any Christmas decor in your living area, your kitchen, or even a child’s room! With the wide variety of ornaments and decor available right now in stores…and in your own Christmas boxes…these are sure to become a favorite for the season!
The possibilities are endless and you can fill glass jars or any glass container with whatever items you love. I put together a few different looks to show you here…
These first ones hold ceramic figurines from my Christmas village and bottle-brush trees. See photo above.
This glass apothecary jar shown below is from Decor Steals. Love it! It can be filled with just about anything! I bought mine HERE. (So sad to tell you they are sold out at this link. I’ve contacted them to find out if there will be more). The jar is resting on a cake stand.
To make white trees, I simply bleached green bottle-brush trees. Soaked them in hot water and bleach (about 3-1 ratio) until they were no longer green, rinsed them thoroughly, allowed them to dry, and sprinkled them with glitter.
The church is an ornament that I found at Target in their Christmas section this year. They have an entire section with glitter houses and matching pieces that are precious.
The table and shutters moved from the den to our kitchen to accommodate our Christmas tree. The snow globes, Mod Podge Christmas Tree Canvas, and a Burlap Rag Wreath pull it all together for a cozy little nook!
DIY Snow Globes Supplies:
Glass jars, any size (mason jars, apothecaries, pickle jars, pimiento jars, etc) Hobby Lobby has a good selection
Bottle-brush trees (Christmas village department at local stores or dollhouse section at Hobby Lobby)
Artificial snow
Ornaments or Christmas village figurines (optional)
Bleach (optional)
Clear glitter (optional)
Be creative here! In your own Christmas boxes, you may already have the perfect ornaments to nestle in your jars. The possibilities are endless. Send me a photo if you put these together!

Espom salt works really well for snow in jars, too with a tea light battery candle inside. Thanks for your creative ideas. Blessings and Merry Christmas.

LOVE your snow globes! And, what a great hint about bleaching the trees! I have 2 of those stands that the snow globe is sitting on. I just love them! I bought one from Southern Living at Home years ago and the other I picked up at a yard sale for $1! Life to the full, Melissa

You inspired me!! I used your bleaching method on my own globes. I’ve linked back to you within my post, if that’s okay with you. This is such a beautiful project you created! 🙂

I think this is awesome! I first got inspired by some that I found in a magazine but I wasn’t going to buy theirs, I wanted to make my own! I’m just trying to figure out what kind of a scene or layout to put in each of them for christmas presents. I plan on using mason jars so it can’t look fake or cluttered. Do you have any ideas?
